A metal 140×114 mm plate frame holds the small plate on a moped, scooter or motor scooter, and also the type 5-1-2 mini motorcycle plate — it is the same size. The frame is steel and comes in silver, black or gold, so it can be matched to the bike. But colour is not the main thing: steel does not crack from vibration the way plastic does over time.

Metal or plastic?
Same size. The metal frame is sturdier, looks neater and comes in three colours. If you need a cheaper one, there is a plastic 140×114 frame — a simple black one; the plate also goes in without drilling.
Why a slotted backing plate?
Plate mounting holes differ between mopeds and scooters. The backing plate is screwed to the mount through whichever slots fit, and the frame with the plate attaches to it — no drilling needed.
How to mount the frame?
- Screw the backing plate to the plate mount with the bolts and washers from the kit.
- Put the plate into the frame and fix the frame to the backing plate. Do not drill the plate: holes could hit the characters.
- On a motorcycle, use thread locker on the bolts — vibration loosens them.
Maker's tip. Check the bolts once a season: a plate almost never falls off by itself — a loosely mounted frame does.
